🎹 Is Mary Had a Little Lamb Actually Easy?
Most children can “play” it in 10 minutes.
Very few truly understand it.
This Spring Break, we fix that.

When “Easy” Isn’t Actually Simple
Many parents teach Mary Had a Little Lamb like this:
“Just use the black keys.”
It sounds correct.
It feels successful.
But when you play it only on black keys…
You are actually playing in G-flat major —
a key with six flats.
That key signature looks like this:
Most beginners cannot even read that.
So what’s happening?
Children memorize shapes.
They don’t learn music.

What Does “Being Able to Play Piano” Mean?
At Legacy Piano Education System™,
Being able to play means:
✔ Reading with understanding
✔ Recognizing intervals and patterns
✔ Understanding rhythm structure
✔ Knowing why notes belong together
✔ Playing independently
✔ Transferring knowledge to new pieces
Not:
❌ Copying finger numbers
❌ Waiting for instructions
❌ Memorizing without comprehension
Foundation determines everything.
🎯 Who Is This For?
This intensive is ideal for students who:
-
Frequently ask, “Which finger do I use?”
-
Depend heavily on written finger numbers
-
Wait for the teacher to tell them each note
-
Feel confused when key signatures appear
-
Can play pieces but cannot explain them
-
Feel stuck at beginner level
If a student relies only on finger positioning,
they are learning movement — not literacy.
This class bridges that gap.
📚 What Students Will Learn
Over 3 focused days, students will learn:
-
How to read key signatures
-
What flats and sharps actually mean
-
How rhythm is structured
-
Stepwise motion vs skips
-
Interval recognition
-
How to analyze beginner songs
-
How to practice intentionally
Students will break down:
Mary Had a Little Lamb and similar beginner repertoire.
They will leave understanding:
Why it works — not just how to press it.

A Message from Chinami
As both a mother and music educator,
I have seen too many students “play” for years without truly understanding music.
This program is not about pushing children ahead.
It is about building foundation correctly.
If piano is going to become a life skill —
it must be taught like literacy, not performance.

but still depends on finger numbers —
